# Manage devices and Desktop updates

Recognize the computer providing your native account and tools, and keep its installation current.

## Identify the device

Open Profile Settings → Devices. Check the device name and available account information. Each Desktop installation is its own device, even when the same account is used on more than one computer.


## Update carefully

Use the existing Desktop update control or the official installer. Preserve the account, local data and device identity. After an update, check the version and connection state before asking for work that needs this computer.


## When a device is unavailable

Read the current connection message and inspect the selected account. A delayed heartbeat is not a reason to reset accounts or reinstall everything. If work is active, inspect its existing conversation and run before taking a disruptive recovery action.
